The panels were made for use as set dressing in the feature film Star Trek: Insurrection (1998). They are shaped like a hexagon and they have the typical Son’a symbol in the center which can be seen during the whole movie. The Son´a and their leader Ru’afo played by F. Murray Abraham are the main villians in Star Trek: Insurrection.
The Son’a panels were made from vacuumformed black plastic and later colored in silver. The panels were used on different sets while filming Star Trek: Insurrection. One panel can be clearly seen in the Son’a shuttle. Some panels were also mounted on the walls in Son’a beauty clinic.
These two Son’a panels come from the collection of William K. Dolan. Dolan was Set Decoration Lead Person on Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
